Wingate Park CC held off a spirited challenge from Irene CC and Akasia CC to lay claim to the best scratch league team title in Gauteng North. Drawn in a three way match play at Silver Lakes CC the three clubs halved all the matches. It made for a particularly tense finish with everything in the balance until the last match was concluded. A wonderful end to the experimental format tested this year.
Centurion CC secured second spot by claiming the 6 points available on the day. Only a single point separated first and second place with Zwartkop CC claiming third spot.
Wingate Park CC won the trophy in 2010 and 2011 and in 2015 broke the three year stronghold that Akasia CC had on the league.
In the B division, Silver Lakes CC made full use of their home ground advantage by beating both Waterkloof GC and Pretoria CC convincingly on the day. Silver Lakes CC, Waterkloof GC and Pretoria CC all entered the final round tied on points and the winners would be promoted to the A Division in 2016. Silver Lakes CC will replace Pretoria GC in the A division who have been relegated to the B division.
Wingate Park CC will represent the GNGU at the Northern Provinces League Finals held at Potchefstroom GC on the 11th and 12th of July. This event sees the scratch league winners of the Northern Provinces converge to crown the best of the best. Wingate Park will have to dig deep to replicate the antics of Akasia CC who won the title in 2014.
We congratulate Wingate Park for winning the scratch league and wish the team the best of luck during the Northern Provinces League Finals.
