Northern sides off to a solid start at SA U-23 IPT

Adriel Poonan Kifentse Nukeri Jason Broomhead Liam McIlroyGNGUJOHANNESBURG, 13 April 2014 – Defending champions Gauteng North, Central Gauteng and Ekurhuleni got off to a solid start in the opening round of the South African U-23 Inter-Provincial when all three teams scored clean sweeps at Country Club Johannesburg on Monday.

All three teams earned two points, but Central took pole position in the A-Section log after whipping North West 11.5 – 0.5. Ekurhuleni edged into second on 8.5 points after their victory over Western Province, while Gauteng North defeated KwaZulu-Natal 8-4 to finish third in the standings.

Central Gauteng will face fourth placed KwaZulu-Natal in the second round, Ekurhuleni will go head-to-head with North West and Gauteng North will be looking to make up a 3.5 games points deficit on the log leaders in their against Western Province.

Gauteng North seniors hunting success in Benoni

SA Amateur Stroke Play ChampionshipsBENONI, 13 April 2015 – Western Province will be hunting repeat success in the INDWE SA Senior Amateur Inter-Provincial from 14-18 April, but Gauteng North is determined to spoil their party at the 27th edition of the country’s largest senior team championship.

Akasia’s Mellette Hendrikse, Ben Kleinhans and Christie le Roux will line up for Gauteng North alongside William Skinner, Chris Delport, Robin Ashby and Leon Scheepers from Zwartkop, as well as debutant Gordon Wessels from Wingate Park Country Club.

The eight-man senior team hope to end a 16-year title drought in the prestigious champion and will aim to get their title challenge off to a fast start when they face off against the defending champions and North West in the opening round at the Ebotse Links Golf Club on Tuesday. Continue reading

GN primed for SA U-23 Inter-Provincial action

IPT GOLF CHALLENGEJOHANNESBURG, 12 April 2015 – Gauteng North are geared up for their opening match against KwaZulu-Natal in the A-Division of the 2015 South African U-23 Inter-Provincial that gets underway at Country Club Johannesburg on Monday.

Rosswell Sinclair, Adriel Poonan and Marco Loubser – members of the victorious 2014 Gauteng North team – return for duty alongside debutants Divan Marais, JP Cooper, Albert Venter Kifense Nukeri and Ruan Conradie, who replaced the injured James du Preez.

The defending champions are certainly among the favourites to perform at the Rockland Course next week, but team manager Johan Struwig said the team is taking nothing for granted. Continue reading

Sinclair triumphs at Nomads SA Boys U-19 Champs

2015NSAU19BMP_RosswellSinclair1_GNGUPOLOKWANE, 11 April 2015 – Rosswell Sinclair defeated fellow Gauteng North junior JP Cooper 2-up in a thrilling 36-hole final to lift the Nomads SA Boys U-19 Match Play Championship title at Polokwane Golf Club on Saturday.

The 17-year-old Centurion golfer had some anxiety going into the final round against his former Nomads SA Boys U-19 Inter-Provincial team-mate, but the pair decided to put their friendship on ice until they reached the finishing line.

“It’s was kind of weird for us to compete against each other, because we will line up for Gauteng North in the SA U-23 Inter-Provincial on Monday and we’ll be foursomes partners,” Sinclair said. Continue reading

Sinclair, Cooper face off in all-Gauteng North final

Ross_JP_GNGUPOLOKWANE, 10 April 2015 – JP Cooper and Rosswell Sinclair will line up for Gauteng North in the South African Under-23 Inter-Provincial Championship on Monday, but not before the pair put their friendship aside to battle each other in the final round of the Nomads SA Boys U-19 Match Play Championship.

The two 17-year-olds will go head-to-head in the 36-hole final at Polokwane Golf Club on Saturday.

Cooper from Wingate Park Golf Club defeated fellow Gauteng North golfer Keegan de Lange 5 & 4 in the first round and claimed a 1-up victory against Attie van Wyk from the Free State in round two. Continue reading

Van Wyk, who clinched the final spot in the 32-man field in a play-off, derailed Dylan Naidoo’s hopes of a double in the prestigious junior championship when he downed the newly-crowned Stroke Play champion 3 & 2. Continue reading

Conradie sparkles at Nomads SA Boys U-19 Stroke Play

IPT GOLF CHALLENGEPOLOKWANE, 8 April 2015 – Estiaan Conradie led the Gauteng North challenge in the Nomads SA Boys U-19 Stroke Play Championship at Polokwane Golf Club on Wednesday.

The Wingate Park golfer carded rounds of 76, 68, 69 and 68 to finish on seven-under-par 281.

Conradie began the third round eight strokes off the pace, but limited his mistakes to one bogey each in the final two rounds to vault to third in the final standings. Continue reading
