GNGU Individual Performers Shine at 72-Hole Teams Championship

The WGSA 72 Hole Teams Championship is an annual highlight for our best amateur ladies. GNGU has a great track record at this tournament, winning it for the last 7 (seven) years consecutively.

The team’s successful run was however halted due to Kim Williams, ‘Nobby’ Dlamini and PGA Pro Johanna Buitendag turning professional after the 2013 season, together with team stalwarts like Eugenie Clack, Magda Kruger, Crystal Cooper and top local junior Catherine Lau not being available this year we sent a very inexperienced team to East London GC. SA teams primed for Junior World Cup

SANLAM AMATURE GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPSTOYOTA CITY, Japan (4 June 2015) – Gauteng North’s Keegan de Lange is among seven of South Africa’s most promising stars that will line up against the world’s top ranked juniors in the prestigious Toyota Junior Golf World Cup in Aichi-Prefecture, Japan this June.

The 23rd edition of the world’s premier junior golf international team championship has drawn 84 entries from across six continents.

The Boys Competition will be contested between 15 countries, while the Girls Competition will be decided between eight countries at the Ishino Course at Chukyo Golf Club from 16-19 June.

The Toyota Junior Golf World Cup, supported by JAL, is the world’s only junior golf championship in which national teams – winners of regional qualifiers held across six continents – compete for the world championship. Continue reading

Gauteng North with work to do in East London

LADIES GOLFGauteng continued their winning march in the Swiss Team Trophy on day two of the 72 Hole Teams Championship, while Border launched a strong attack to take control in the Challenge Trophy at East London Golf Club on Monday.

Reigning Sanlam SA Women’s Stroke Play champion Ivanna Samu returned rounds of 72 and 71 to back Kaleigh Telfer and Woo-Ju Son and the trio boosted Gauteng A to the top of the summit on 430. Continue reading

Top amateurs primed for 72 Hole Teams Championship

2015 GNGUEAST LONDON, 23 May 2015 – In 2013, Gauteng North not only notched their fifth successive Swiss Team Trophy title in the 72 Hole Teams Championship, but also scored an unprecedented double triumph by also winning the Challenge Trophy in the B-Division at Maccauvlei Golf Club.

Yet, despite fielding three teams in the prestigious national event last year, the defending champions were no match for the feisty threesome from KwaZulu-Natal, who claimed a three stroke victory at Mossel Bay Golf Club. Continue reading

SAGA Juniors clinch Challenge Cup victory

DSC_2739_GNGUCAPE TOWN (22 May 2015) – The final outcome of the 2015 Challenge Cup Teams Tournament was poised on a knife’s edge, but when the last putt dropped at Milnerton Golf Club on Friday, the South African Golf Association’s Junior Team were crowned the champions.

Twelve months after Central Gauteng won the final game in the final round at Cullinan Golf Club to edge out the SAGA Juniors for victory, the country’s rising stars reached the winner’s circle. Continue reading

Showdown looms at Challenge Cup

IPT GOLF CHALLENGECAPE TOWN (21 May 2015) – The South African Golf Association’s Junior Team and Western Province are deadlocked heading into the final round of the Challenge Cup Teams Tournament after a thrilling fourth round at Milnerton Golf Club on Thursday.

The SAGA Juniors beat the South African Universities side (USSA) 7.5 – 4.5, while Western Province pulled another rabbit out of the hat to score a narrowly 6.5 – 5.5 victory over a feisty Presidents Team.

The victories left the two sides tied at six points, but the SAGA Juniors will have a huge advantage heading into the final round. Continue reading

Central back on track, but GN struggle at Challenge Cup

AndrewVanderKnaap_GNGUCAPE TOWN (20 May 2015) – Central Gauteng terminated Western Province, while the South African Golf Association’s Junior Team and the South African Universities side (USSA) enjoyed success in the third round Challenge Cup Teams Tournament at Milnerton Golf Club on Wednesday.

Although Central Gauteng still have some work to do, the eight-man side showed incredible team spirit to rally after a second round loss to USSA and score a comprehensive 8.5 – 3.5 victory against the host union. Continue reading
