Solid start for SA at Junior World Cup

Herman Keegan & Gerhard_GNGUAICHI-PREFECTURE, Japan (16 June 2015) – South Africa celebrated a productive Youth Day in Japan as both the boys and girls teams placed inside the top five in the first round of the Toyota Junior Golf World Cup at the Chukyo Golf Club in Aichi-Prefecture on Tuesday.

Japan and Sweden set the first round target in the Boys Competition at seven-under-par 206. The United States lag two off the pace in third, while South Africa tied for fourth with Korea and Canada on three under 210.

Du Preez well placed at Amateur Champs

SA Amateur Golf Championships - Day 1ANGUS, Scotland (16 June 2015) – James du Preez from Gauteng North and KwaZulu-Natal’s Martin Rohwer lead the South African challenge after the opening round of the 120th edition of the prestigious Amateur Championship in Scotland.

Both players opened their campaign at Panmure Golf Club near Angus.

Rohwer, a junior at the University of Alabama, offset four bogeys with five birdies for a one-under-par 69 to tie for 25th, while Du Preez carded an even-par 70 for a share of 44th.

Stoop leads SA challenge at Amateur Championship

2015 Leopard TrophyANGUS, Scotland (15 June 2015) – Gauteng North’s Hendrikus Stoop launched the South African challenge in the Amateur at Carnoustie and Panmure in Angus, Scotland on Monday.

Australia pip Scotland, SA for Tri-Series glory

JamesHouse_cropScotland (11 June 2015) – The Scots carried a 12 stroke lead into the second day of the Tri-Series against South Africa and Australia, but the Aussies defeated the home favourites for victory at Castle Stuart Golf Links in Inverness, Scotland on Thursday.

The Australians made hay in the glorious sunny weather.

The five best scores from six counted each day towards the team total, with an individual competition also running for the best two scores combined.

Number one ranked Lucas Herbert led the attack for the Australian A-team with a superb seven-under-par 65. Continue reading

Teaghan Gauche, Jason Smith, Hendrikus Stoop and James du Preez from Gauteng North, Central Gauteng’s Matthew Spacey and Jade Buitendag from Southern Cape teed off in the prestigious St Andrews Links Trophy on Friday, but Mother Nature dealt their campaign a heavy blow when organisers were forced to cancel the second round. Mid-Amateur and Senior Closed Championship 2015

The weekend of the 6th and 7th of June saw the GNGU Mid-Amateur and Senior Closed Championship being played at Services Golf Club. The format of 36 Holes of stroke play, 18 holes per day over a Saturday afternoon and a Sunday morning, was the one used for all senior tournaments.

Senior golfer Gerhard Strydom from Waterkloof Golf Club was the winner of the inaugural combined event with an impressive score of 144 strokes. Continue reading
