SA junior Sinclair impresses in USA

Under Armour®/Jeff Overton Championship7 July 2015 – Ross Sinclair from Gauteng North claimed a two stroke victory in his second start on the American Junior Golf Association’s Junior Tour in June.

Sinclair opened with a 71 in the Under Armour® / Jeff Overton Championship, but slipped to a tie for 27th after a 77 in the second round.

The 17-year-old Centurion golfer lagged eight strokes off the pace at Otter Creek Golf Club in Columbus, Ohio, but he overhauled the leaders with a flawless nine-under-par 63 to triumph on five under 211. Continue reading

Determined Du Toit sticks to Samu at SA Girls

Orkney, 29 June 2015 – South Africa’s number one junior Ivanna Samu stayed in the hunt at Orkney Golf Club, but the reigning Sanlam SA Women’s Amateur and Stroke Play champion will have to find a way to shake off Danielle du Toit if she hopes to claim the prestigious Nomads SA Girl’s Championship on Tuesday.

Du Toit and Samu both opened with 73s and started the second round one stroke behind Shawnelle de Lange.

Gauteng’s Samu mixed four birdies with five bogeys and a double bogey for a 75, but Du Toit mirrored her 75 to claim a share of pole position at four over 148. Continue reading

Wingate Park Country Club crowned Scratch League winners.

20150629_104151Wingate Park CC held off a spirited challenge from Irene CC and Akasia CC to lay claim to the best scratch league team title in Gauteng North. Drawn in a three way match play at Silver Lakes CC the three clubs halved all the matches. It made for a particularly tense finish with everything in the balance until the last match was concluded. A wonderful end to the experimental format tested this year.

Centurion CC secured second spot by claiming the 6 points available on the day. Only a single point separated first and second place with Zwartkop CC claiming third spot. Continue reading

Samu, Du Toit in the hunt at Nomads SA Girls

Orkney, 27 June 2015 – Gauteng North’s Danielle du Toit finished within striking distance of the lead while South Africa’s top ranked junior Ivanna Samu finished in a strong position to challenge for the Nomads SA Girl’s Championship title for a second year running.

Looking to add to her growing list of accolades, Samu overcame a rocky start at Orkney Golf Club on Sunday with four birdies down the back nine for a one-over-par 73 and a share of second.

The top end of the leaderboard is gridlocked, though, and the reigning Sanlam SA Women’s Amateur and Stroke Play champion  will have her job cut out to go a step further than last year’s joint second place finish. Continue reading

GNGU Girls headed to Orkney

The NOMAD’s South African Girl’s Championship is hosted at Orkney Golf Club from 28 June to 1 July. Headed to the Orkney Golf club are seven of the GNGU’s best girl golfers as well as a miserable cold front. The weather forecasts predict temperatures well below freezing for the early mornings and evenings.

The spearhead of the GNGU contingent is Danielle du Toit who finished last year’s edition in eight place overall. Continue reading

Smith the sole survivor at Brabazon Trophy

2015 Leopard TrophyNOTTINGHAM, England (26 June 2015) – Jason Smith from Irene Golf Club will be the lone South African challenging over the final two rounds of the Brabazon Trophy in Nottingham, England.

Smith lined up in the prestigious international event at Notts Golf Club in Hollinwell alongside fellow Gauteng North golfers Teaghan Gauche and Hendrikus Stoop, Matthew Spacey from Central Gauteng and Southern Cape’s Jade Buitendag. Continue reading
