BRIVE-LA-GAILLARDE, France (25 June 2016) – The South African Universities Team are in a strong position heading into the weekend at the 16th World University Golf Championships at Golf de Planchetorte in Brive-la-Gaillarde in France.

The South African trio lag just seven shots off the pace from joint leaders Ireland and France.

Luke Jerling and Rupert Kaminski combined for an opening seven over 151 to secure overall fifth in the Mens Team standings in round one and the team moved to fourth in the standings after posting 152 in round two. Continue reading →

KENT, United Kingdom (24 June 2016) – South African trio Albert Venter, Jovan Rebula and Tristen Strydom survived the cut after the weather-hit second round of the Brabazon Trophy was completed on Friday at the London Golf Club in Kent, England.

Rebula and Venter tied at one-over-par 145 and Strydom made it three South Africans in joint 33rd after completing the second round this morning. The local trio finished 11 shots behind the 36-hole leader, Cameron Davis from Australia.

CAPE TOWN, 24 June 2016 – The South African Golf Association (SAGA) have named Southern Cape’s Jovan Rebula and Central Gauteng pair Marco Steyn and Dylan Naidoo to represent South Africa at the biennial World Amateur Team Championships in September.

“The International Golf Federation moved the date for team selection forward to 1 July this year and we considered a number of factors in deciding on the Eisenhower Trophy team, including the rankings and the players’ performances over the last 12 months,” said SAGA acting president, Geoff Taylor. AICHI-PREFECTURE, Japan (16 June 2016) – The United States celebrated a double victory, while the South African Boys team shared fourth and the SA Girls team tied for seventh after a final push in the 2016 TOYOTA Junior Golf World Cup, supported by JAL, in Toyota City, Aichi-Prefecture, Japan on Friday.

GIRLS COMPETITION

The United States and Spain are in hot pursuit of Japan, who returned an even-par 144 to maintain pole position in the Girls Competition. The defending champions lead at nine under 279, but the USA and Spain are just one shot back after respective rounds of 143 and 141.

PORTHCAWL, Wales (15 June 2016) – Aubrey Beckley from North West and Southern Cape’s Andre Nel were the lone survivors of the 11-strong South African pack to make the match play stage of the Amateur Championship in Wales on Tuesday.

Beckley carded a first round 73 at Royal Porthcawl golf Club braved windy and wet conditions at Pyle and Kenfig Golf Club to rocket from joint 88th to a tie for sixth on even-par 142. Continue reading →
