Orton crowned Sanlam SA Women’s Amateur champion

LumienTrophy_Sanlam_GNGUBENONI (13 July 2016) – It felt as if she had come full circle when Lumien Orton won the Sanlam South African Women’s Amateur Championship at the Ebotse Links on Wednesday.

The 29-year-old Orton beat the Western Cape’s Cara Gorlei 2Up in the final. Earlier she beat Symone Henriques 2&1 to make the final.

But Orton had to claw her way back from being 4Down through eight holes, and she did so with some magnificent putting on the back nine. It was two strong birdies at holes 14 and 15 that helped her complete her comeback to All Square.

She then went 1up with a par on 16 as Gorlei missed a short putt to halve. They halved 17 and Orton birdied 18 to take the title. Continue reading

Du Toit makes final four at Ebotse

BENONI, 12 July 2016 – We are down to the FinalFinal Four collage Four at the Sanlam SA Women’s Amateur Championship.

On a day where some of the biggest names in women’s amateur golf got the boot, reigning Nomads SA Girls and Liberty Gauteng North Match Play champion Danielle du Toit from Gauteng North cruised to the semi-finals at Ebotse Golf and Country Estate alongside Arkansas University student Cara Gorlei from Western Province, 15-year-old Symone Henriques from Gauteng and former top ranked amateur Lumien Orton.

Schaper survives to clinch NOoM Modderfontein

JOHANNESBURG, 12 July 2016 –Ebotse’s Jayden Schaper produced two moments of brilliance on the 18th hole to savour a play-off victory in the Nomads National Order of Merit at Modderfontein Golf Club on Tuesday.

Cole Stevens held the outright lead at three under through 15 holes, but the Parkview junior followed a bogey at 16 with a double bogey at 17 and set the clubhouse target at even-par 144 with a final round 73. Dylan Mostert reeled in successive birdies at 16 and 17 to close with a 70 and the State Mines junior joined Cole in pole position.

Clack sisters on course at Ebotse

LADIES GOLFBENONI (11 July 2016) – Gauteng North sisters Marne and Eugenie Clack and newly-minted Liberty Gauteng North Match Play champion Danielle du Toit reached the third round in the Sanlam South African Women’s Amateur at the Ebotse Links on Monday.

Marne will go up against Du Toit in the third round, while Eugene faces Ethel Ruthenberg from Southern Cape.

Marne had a first round bye, and dispatched Lynette Pretorius from Gauteng 5 & 3 in the second round. Eugenie defeated Lindi Coetzee from Services 1-up to advance to round two, where she eliminated Kiera Floyd from Ekurhuleni 1-up. Du Toit whipped Zane Naude from Bankveld Golf Estate 7 & 5 in the first round and crushed Tara Griebenow from Western Province 6 & 4 in round two. Continue reading

NMMU gunning for USSA Championship double

University of Pretoria_GNGUPORT ELIZABETH, 7 July 2016 – Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University will be gunning for a double celebration after both the A- and B-teams reached the final round of the University Sport South Africa (USSA) Championship on Thursday.

After whipping the University of Pretoria’s B-team 4.5 – 1.5 and thereby eliminating half of the defending champions’ challenge on day four, NMMU A will face Tuks A at Humewood Golf Club in the battle for Cup Champion honours.
