Mixed results for SA pair at Birkdale

2016DOY_DeonDanielle_Rnd2_GNGUSOUTHPORT, England (15 September 2016) – Gauteng North’s Danielle du Toit vaulted 13 spots on day two of the 2016 Duke of York Young Champions Trophy, while Deon Germishuys slipped outside the top 20 at Royal Birkdale in England on Wednesday.

Du Toit battled a balky putter in her opening round of 80, but the reigning Nomads SA Girls champion found her mojo on day two and returned a much-improved 72 in the second round to tie for 18th.

SA duo get DOY campaign underway

2016DOY_Rnd1_DeonDanielle_GNGUSOUTHPORT, England (14 September 2016) – South African juniors Deon Germishuys and Danielle du Toit made a battling start to the 2016 Duke of York Young Champions Trophy in fickle weather conditions at Royal Birkdale in England on Tuesday.

The first round teed off in sunny conditions, but heavy rain, thunder and lightning contributed to a difficult afternoon on the course.

Top SA amateurs gear up in England and Mexico

2016DOY_DeonDanielle_GNGUThis week will launch some significant activity in the ranks of world amateur golf with the 16th edition of the invitation-only Duke of York Young Champions in England and the start of the prestigious World Amateur Teams Championships (WATC) for both men and women, being held back to back near Cancun in Mexico this September.

First up, Danielle du Toit from Gauteng North and Western Province’s Deon Germishuys will face 49 of the world’s top ranked juniors from 28 countries at Royal Birkdale from 13-15 September.

Exciting Test await top SA Seniors and Mid-Amateurs 

SA Amateur Stroke Play ChampionshipsCAPE TOWN, 9 September 2016 – South Africa’s top ranked Senior and Mid-Amateur golfers are in for an exciting experience when they go head-to-head with the cream of Indian senior and mid-amateur golf this December.

“The South African Golf Association, in conjunction with its newly formed operations company Golf RSA, is very pleased to announce that we are launching an annual reciprocating tour in partnership with the India Golf Union,” said South African Golf Association Acting President Geoff Taylor.

“Both countries will select a four-man Senior and four-man Mid-Amateur team each and the tour will launch on the first of December in Calcutta, India, with two Test matches. Estiaan and Ruan Conradie (Wingate Park CC) have won the LIBERTY GNGU Closed Foursomes tournament. This comes on the back of a stellar win of the Central Gauteng Foursomes tournament. The event was held at an immaculate Woodhill Country Club on an absolutely brilliant day for golf. The brothers were paired with Dylan Kok and Phillip Kruse, who ended tied second with Jansen Harper and Louis Jonck, winning the tournament by eight strokes on 5 under par. The pair followed up a first round 70 with a solid three under 69 to seal a comfortable victory. Continue reading

Conradie brothers’ double take

Estiaan and Ruan Conradie (Wingate Park CC) have won the Randpark Open Foursomes trophy (the larger one) and the Central Gauteng Golf Union Open Foursomes trophy. The two events have been jointly presented for the past two years. The brothers shot rounds of 73 and 71 to win by one from the team of Donovan Pearse and Waylon Kukard from Ekurhuleni Golf Union.

Ruan and Estiaan were both named in the Inter-Provincial team to represent the GNGU at Fishriver Sun from 19 to 23 September. The two other GNGU pairs that were in the field of 32 were Andrew van der Knaap / Continue reading
