This year’s 2017 Liberty GNGU Closed took place at Pretoria Golf Club. 42 players entered the 36 hole tournament, with 4 players competing in the C Division (Hcp 11 – 18), 10 players in the B Division (Hcp 6 – 10) and 28 players in the A Division (Hcp 5 or less). Kelso Hannay and Craig Collins, both from Irene Country Club, started the final 18 holes at level par. However, in round 2 Craig came up top, shooting 73 to win by 4 shots ahead of Etienne Janse van Rensburg from Akasia.

We would like to thank Pretoria Golf Club, their Committee, staff and members for their fantastic hospitality. Being the oldest Golf Club in Pretoria it was in great condition and proved to be a good test for all that played.

Development IPT Team
On 22 May, Benoni Country Club will be hosting the annual Gauteng Development Golfers
tri-angular. This tournament is played between Gauteng North, Ekurhuleni and Central Gauteng. Each team consists of 8 players, and the format is foursomes in the morning followed by singles in the afternoon.
Following our Development League, won by The Els Club, the top 15 players were selected to participate in trials, held at Irene Country Club on 24 April 2017. The top 8 players for the day have been selected to go through represent Gauteng North at the tri-angular:-

Reunion Tour 2017
A Team of 4 players were again invited to the 2017 Amateur Championships hosted by Reunion. The team selected for the tour was Keegan McLachlan (defending champion), Chris van der Merwe, Richard Joubert and Dylan Kok, with past president Gerry Few accompanying the team as team manager. A fantastic few days was had by all and Dylan Kok flew the Gauteng North flag high by winning the championship on 216, 3 shots ahead of second place.

Venter braced for Leopard Creek defence
MALELANE, 27 February 2017 – South Africa’s Albert Venter is looking forward to his title defence in the African Amateur Championship at Leopard Creek Golf Estate in Mpumalanga this week.

Du Toit delivers in North West Open
HARTEBEESPOORTDAM, 27 February 2017 – The final school year is tough on any golfer, but more so when your majors are mathematics and science.
Gauteng North rising star Danielle du Toit enjoyed a magnificent run in 2016, racking up victories in the Southern Cape Championship, the World Amateur Reunion Championship, the Nomads SA Girls Championship and the Liberty GNGU Gauteng North Match Play that rocketed her into the top five in the Womens Golf South Africa senior rankings.
Like all matriculants, academic pressure has forced the 18-year-old Menlo Park learner to put her golfing aspirations on the back burner this season, but Du Toit pushed the books aside for the North West Open and showed her class when she claimed victory in the North West Open on Sunday.
