CAPE TOWN, 23 April 2015 – Wingate Park’s Teaghan Gauche will lead a trio of Gauteng North golfers into battle in the first round of the Western Province Amateur Championship at Rondebosch Golf Club on Thursday.
The country’s number two ranked amateur fired rounds of 75-72-67 and 73 to take sole second behind Stroke Play champion Tristen Strydom, while Philip Kruse from Woodhill and Centurion duo Nicholas Frade and Divan Marais also made the 32-man field for the Match Play Division.
Gauteng North is guaranteed at least one Gauteng North golfer in the second round draw as Gauche and Marais will face off in round one after the Centurion golfer survived the play-off on 13-over-par 301.
Frade carded rounds of 71-76-74 and 77 to tie for 20th on 10 over 298 and Kruse finished a further stroke adrift after reeling in three successive rounds of 74 and a final round 77.
While Frade faces off with Louis Taylor from Central Gauteng, Kruse will have his job cut out when he goes head-to-head with defending champion Gerlou Roux from Western Province.
