BUENOS AIRES; Argentina (24 March 2015) – Jason Smit and Hendrikus Stoop are gunning for solid performances at par-72 Jack Nicklaus-designed course at the Nordelta Golf Club when they line up in the Southern Cross Invitational in Tigre on Thursday.
The Gauteng pair will contest the prestigious 54-hole international teams event alongside Ekurhuleni’s Tristen Strydom and Gerlou Roux from the Western Province.
South Africa will face off against teams from Argentina, Australia, Canada, Chile, France, Ireland and Portugal at the par-72 Jack Nicklaus-designed course at the Nordelta Golf Club.
The course measures 7,278 yards, is characterised by wide fairways, generous greens and bountiful bunkering and should suit the Gauteng North pair, who struggled in the Argentine Stroke Play Championship last week.
Strydom finished a credible 12th on five-over-par 285, while Roux tie for 15th on seven over 287.
Smith was well-placed after rounds of 70 and 73, but an unfortunate 82 in the third round derailed his campaign.
However, the former SA Stroke Play champion rallied with a final round 74 to finish on 19 over 299.
Stoop, who has been battling a back injury, registered rounds of 73, 74, 79 and 78 to sign off on 24-over-par 304.
Each team contesting the Southern Cross Invitational comprise four players, but only the best three scores from each round will count toward the overall team total.
All the participants will earn World Amateur Golf Rankings points.
