Our host Club for the GNGU Open Waterkloof Golf Club was in pristine condition for this years GNGU Open. After round 1, the leaderboard was tight at the top and after round 2 when the cut was at just 3 over par, we knew we were in for an exciting final 2 rounds with the 66 players who made the cut. In the end, Centurion Country Club’s Charl Barnard had to birdie the 18th hole to win the event, and that he did with ease. Shooting rounds of 70, 66, 69 and 65 Charl won the tournament, 1 shot ahead of nearest rival, Fancourt’s Morris Shiefner.
Waterkloof Golf Club deserve a huge shout out. With long delays in round one due to lightning, the greenkeeping staff, under the management of head greenkeeper Wessel Duvenhage, went above and beyond not only to have the course ready for round 1 to resume on day 2 at 6.40am but also for round 2 to start at the same time, with new tees and pins! The exceptional service received from the Club throughout the tournament, coupled with the superb condition of the course was greatly appreciated by all the players as well tournament team from GNGU.
