GNGU Womens Open Strokeplay Results

The 2017 Liberty GNGU Open was held at Waterkloof Golf Club from 9 – 12 July 2017.  The strokeplay event, which is held over 54 holes was won by Danielle du Toit from Pretoria Country Club.  Danielle went into the final round 1 shot behind Akasia’s Larissa du Preez, however a solid 72 in the final round saw Danielle lift the trophy on 217, 5 shots ahead of nearest competitor Kajal Mistry.

Holly Lau from Woodhill Country Club led the B Division from the first day and finished the tournament on 254, well ahead of the rest of the pack.

The C Division, played over only 36 holes on Tuesday 10 July.  Erica van Wyk and Vanessa Nigrini were tied 151 Nett points, with Erica winning the trophy on a count out.

2017 Liberty GNGU Women’s Open

The 2017 Liberty GNGU Women’s Open is underway at Waterkloof Golf Club 9 – 12 July 2017.
The competition is played in 2 divisions, A Division is for players up to a 9 handicap and B Division is for handicaps 10 – 18.  The tournament is played over 54 holes and is a Strokeplay event.

On Monday, 10 July players with handicaps 19+ participate in the Bronze Championship and they play 36 holes Strokeplay.  Scores will be updated after 18 holes and are available here CLICK HERE

Tuesday 11 July and Wednesday 12 July is the Matchplay side of the tournament.  Live scoring links will be posted closer to the time.

U/13 and U/15 GN Quadrangular teams take gold in Middelburg

Gauteng North, Central Gauteng, Mpumalanga and North West participated 16 & 17 June in a Junior Quadrangular event hosted by Mpumalanga Golf Union at Middelburg Country Club.  GN were represented by players in the U/19, U/17, U/15 and U/13 boys age groups and managed to win both the U/15 and U/13 divisions.  Congratulations to all players who participated in this tournament and thank you for representing Gauteng North with pride.  A huge thank you must also go to the team managers for their assistance as well as parents for their support!

2017 Liberty GNGU Mid Am & Senior Closed

The 2017 Liberty GNGU Mid Amateur and Senior Closed was held at Akasia Country Club over 3 & 4 June.  This 36 hole stroke play event had 33 Mid Amateurs and 17 Senior players competing from Clubs around Gauteng North.
After round 1 Kelso Hannay, from Irene Country Club led the Mid Amateur section on 69, 1 shot ahead of Silver Lakes’ Danie Viljoen.  Neil Goosen from Zwartkop was leading the senior division on 73, 1 shot ahead of Gerhard Strydom from Waterkloof.

Round 2 proved to be a lot tougher and resulted in a play off in the Mid Amateur section between Kelso Hannay and Louis Jonck (both from Irene) who finished the tournament on 146.  Louis came out tops on the 3rd playoff hole to take the trophy for 2017.

Pieter Cooper, from Wingate Park won the Senior section, finishing on 151 for the tournament.

Results – May Inter Provincial Tournaments

May was a busy month for inter-provincial tournaments with the Challenge Cup, WGSA 72 Hole Teams Championships and the Development Triangular.
Unfortunately we were unable to bring home any trophies from these events, however the players contested well.
The Golf RSA Juniors came up top in the Challenge Cup.  CLICK HERE for the final log.
The Kwa Zulu Natal team were crowned 72 Hole Swiss Team Trophy champs.  CLICK HERE for the A Division final log and CLICK HERE for the B Division final log.
The Central Gauteng Development team were able to snatch the Development Triangular trophy, which is played between CGGU, Ekurhuleni Golf Union and Gauteng North Golf Union.

Thank you to these Team Managers and Teams who represented Gauteng North and Liberty for their continued support of our teams.

2017/8 Executive Committee

The 13th Annual General Meeting of the Gauteng North Golf Union was held on 10 May 2017 at Wingate Park Country Club.

Willem Roberts, who had stepped down was thanked for his contribution during his time on the Executive.
