It is with excitement that, as per a decision by the Executive Committee, the Union will be changing tournament conditions by limiting the restrictions of most of our closed / non-national ranking tournaments in order to accommodate more golfers. Handicap limits will be changed in order to accommodate golfers of all abilities (with divisions set where necessary) and tournaments will also accommodate both male and female golfers. We are hoping to increase participation in our events and also hope that by opening these tournaments up, golfers affiliated to GNGU will have the opportunity to play at different courses, in different formats of competitions and enjoy the variety and benefit of being affiliated.
We have two tournaments coming up where the conditions of competition have been changed to accommodate this decision and encourage players to enter:

The Champion of Champions events for both the men and ladies were held on 23 July at Blue Valley Golf Estate and Waterkloof Golf Club respectively.
The men’s A Division – played over 36 holes medal, was tight after round 1, with Hendre Maree and Alex van Heerden both shooting 69. However, Silver Lakes Junior member, Keegan McLachlan, continued his good form after winning the Inland Noom and shot 72, 67 to win the trophy, 2 shots ahe ad of Hendre Maree.
Both B and C Division played Stableford and the B Division trophy was taken by Neels Vermaak from Hillside Golf Club, having 39 points, whilst C Division winner George Schroeder from Cullinan had a remarkable 47 points.
In the Senior Division, William Skinner from Zwartkop cc shot 69, to finish 1 shot ahead of Etienne Groenewald.
At Waterkloof, the A Division, also played over 36 holes medal and Lenanda van der Watt from Akasia took the trophy after shooting rounds of 75 and 69 – 4 shots ahead of nearest competitor Gina Da Silva from Centurion.
The B Division was played over 18 holes and the trophy awarded to the Medal Nett winner.
Lenie Cronje took her home course advantage and won the B Division, shooting a nett 74.
C Division was exciting, with Cinteche du Plessis from Akasia and Enez de Wet from Woodhilll both finishing on 41 stableford points. A count out, done on the back 9, resulted in Enez have 21 stableford points, however Cinteche had a fantastic 22 stableford points and was awarded the trophy.
The senior trophy is awarded to the Medal winner – which this year was Karin Watts from Services Golf Club. She shot 86 and was 4 shots ahead of nearest competitor Marni Greyling from Waterkloof.
it is with excitement that Golf RSA will be hosting the inaugural National Champion of Champions at Glendower Golf Club on 6 – 7 November. The regional A, B and C Division winners qualify for this tournament and we wish them luck, it would be great to see a Gauteng North Champion of Champions!

Congratulations to Cleo Jordaan from Akasia Country Club who recently won the plate division of the 2017 SA Sanlam Women’s Amateur Matchplay at Stellenbosch Golf Club.
Keegan McLachlan, from Silver Lakes Country Club, also flew the Gauteng North flag high at the recent Inland NOOM held at Houghton Golf Club, shooting rounds of 73 and 66 to win by one shot.
We are proud to see our rising stars doing so well and look forward to watching their success’s further.
The 2017 Liberty GNGU Womens Open Matchplay event was held at Waterkloof Golf Club 11 – 12 July 2017 – which followed the Strokeplay tournament which was won by Danielle du Toit. With 16 competitors in the A division and 8 competitors in the B Division the status of Matchplay Champion for 2017 showed some great battles.
Matchplay is always an exciting format of the game – proving that each hole is a new beginning and the mind is as important as the shots played.
Holly Lau, from Woodhill and defending Champion in the B Division once again proved her ability beating Blue Valley’s Genee Marais in the final 2 & 1. For full results of all the matches in the B Division CLICK HERE
Ladies Golf Gauteng’s Kajal Mistry, currently ranked as no.1 Women’s Golfer in the country, showed how she has achieved this ranking and beat the Strokeplay winner of the event, Pretoria Country Club’s, Danielle du Toit 4 & 3. For full results of all the matches in the A Division CLICK HERE
