GNGU Senior Open 2019

The 2019 GNGU Senior Open was held at Akasia Golf Club 19 & 20 January 2019.  CGGU players Craig Kamps and Jock Wellington led the Senior and Super Senior divisions respectively and both managed to hold their lead and take the respective titles, Craig finishing on -5, six shots ahead of nearest rivals Johan du Toit and William Skinner.  Jock Wellington finished on +4, five shots ahead of nearest rival Adrian Kriel.

The course was in great condition and we would like to thank Akasia Golf Club’s management, committee, staff and members for hosting the event.

All players entered into a lucky draw prize to win a trip to play in the Audi World Amateur tournament in Reunion.  This awesome prize included a return flight courtesy of Air Autral, accommodation courtesy of Boucan Canot, transfers and an excursion courtesy of Reunitours and entry into the tournament courtesy of the Reunion Golf Association.  We thank the Reunion Island Tourism Board for their support.  For more information on Reunion Island contact Marie-Line Anelard marieline.anelard@reunitours.com.

GNGU PWC Silver Salver Update

Unfortunately, due to inclement weather, round 2 has been suspended for the day – 20 October 2018.  Players to be at their balls at 06:30am to resume round 2 on Sunday 21 October.  Following the completion of round 2, the cut will be processed with the top 60 and ties making it through to the round 3.  Unfortunately the tournament has been reduced to 54 holes.

GNGU Events – October

Entries for the following events are now open: –

Coronation Cup – 7 October 2018.  This tournament is a 18 hole Mixed Betterball event taking place at The Els Club, Copperleaf.  It is open to all affiliated golfers, however pairs must be mixed gender in order to enter.  CLICK HERE to read more about the event and to enter.

PWC Silver Salver – 19 – 21 October 2018.  The annual Silver Salver event has reverted back to a Stroke Play tournament, taking place over 72 holes at Irene Country Club.  This tournament is open to male affiliated golfers with a handicap index of 4 or less.  GolfRSA and World Ranking points are available for those competing in this event.  CLICK HERE for further information and to enter.

2018 Foursomes

The 2018 GNGU Foursomes was held at Zwartkop CC on Sunday 26 August.  In an effort to grow the event and give golfers of all ability the opportunity to play, the tournament was open to men and women with no handicap limit and it was fantastic to have 59 pairs entered.   Dawid Opperman and Dino Cappazario, both having recently been chosen to represent GNGU at the upcoming Premier IPT proved their selection, winning the A Division on 140 over the 36 holes, 1 shot ahead of IPT team mates Jacques van Tonder and Christopher van der Merwe.

B Division gross was won by Paul Davel and Clint Broeders and the winning mixed pair division was Andre Du Bruyn and Chantelle Usmar.  Bongiwe Shabalala and Di Dyason won the overall nett prize.

Thank you to Zwartkop CC and its members for allowing us to host the tournament at your Club and for your assistance and hospitality.

The next teams event is on 16 September at Silver Lakes Golf Estate.  This is the teams of two event, where teams play Betterball Medal in the morning and Foursomes in the afternoon.  It is another opportunity for any affiliated golfer to enter and have a fun day out on the golf course.  CLICK HERE to enter online for this event.

Mid Am IPT Selection
