Well done Keegan!

Kyle Hole In OneCongratulations to Keegan Mclachlan from Gauteng North, who recorded a career first hole-in-one during the Africa Junior Open at the Fish River Sun Country Club!!

The Silver Lakes player aced the par three 11th hole during the second round.

Mclachlan posted rounds of 77, 67 and 72 to grab a share of sixth on even-par 216 with Ekurhuleni’s Dylan Mostert.

How do you know that you are the best in the business? You win all the matches you play, in order to win the league in your province and then… beat everybody at the Northern Provinces finals.

Akasia Country Club represented the Gauteng North Golf Union, whilst Randpark Golf Club, Ebotse Links, Walker Park Golf Club and Potchefstroom Country Club each represented the other unions that make up the Northern Provinces. Limpopo did not field a team this year.

This event has a huge heritage and the trophy has been contested since shortly after the Second World War. The format is 8 member teams playing match play from scratch. Due to the number of teams the event is usually scheduled over 72 holes contested in two days. Because of the withdrawal of Limpopo the host union Ekurhuleni scheduled the matches over 54 holes. Thirty six holes contested on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday morning. Continue reading

Super-cool Schaper scores at Tshwane Junior Open

Jayden_JohanStruwigTSHWANE, 15 July 2016 – Just three days after his Nomads National Order of Merit victory, Ebotse golfer Jayden Schaper produced a nerveless display to defeat Ge-Rico Muller at the third hole of a sudden-death play-off to scoop the Tshwane Junior Open title at Pretoria Country Club on Friday.

Schaper made a dismal start in round one and was three over at the turn, but an eagle at the par five 12th gave him some momentum and he signed off with a 74. He began the final round four off the pace from first round pacesetter Bryce Leach. Continue reading

Opperman chases Leach at Tshwane Junior Open

Dawid Opperman_GNGUTSHWANE, 14 July 2016 – Bryce Leach from Central Gauteng will carry a one stroke lead over Dawid Opperman and Kyle de Beer into the final round of the Tshwane Junior Open at Pretoria Country Club on Friday.
The Eagle Canyon golfer opened with a two-under-par 72 to edge clear of Opperman from Gauteng North and De Beer from Eastern Province.

Orton crowned Sanlam SA Women’s Amateur champion

LumienTrophy_Sanlam_GNGUBENONI (13 July 2016) – It felt as if she had come full circle when Lumien Orton won the Sanlam South African Women’s Amateur Championship at the Ebotse Links on Wednesday.

The 29-year-old Orton beat the Western Cape’s Cara Gorlei 2Up in the final. Earlier she beat Symone Henriques 2&1 to make the final.

But Orton had to claw her way back from being 4Down through eight holes, and she did so with some magnificent putting on the back nine. It was two strong birdies at holes 14 and 15 that helped her complete her comeback to All Square.

She then went 1up with a par on 16 as Gorlei missed a short putt to halve. They halved 17 and Orton birdied 18 to take the title. Continue reading

Du Toit makes final four at Ebotse

BENONI, 12 July 2016 – We are down to the FinalFinal Four collage Four at the Sanlam SA Women’s Amateur Championship.

On a day where some of the biggest names in women’s amateur golf got the boot, reigning Nomads SA Girls and Liberty Gauteng North Match Play champion Danielle du Toit from Gauteng North cruised to the semi-finals at Ebotse Golf and Country Estate alongside Arkansas University student Cara Gorlei from Western Province, 15-year-old Symone Henriques from Gauteng and former top ranked amateur Lumien Orton.

Schaper survives to clinch NOoM Modderfontein

JOHANNESBURG, 12 July 2016 –Ebotse’s Jayden Schaper produced two moments of brilliance on the 18th hole to savour a play-off victory in the Nomads National Order of Merit at Modderfontein Golf Club on Tuesday.

Cole Stevens held the outright lead at three under through 15 holes, but the Parkview junior followed a bogey at 16 with a double bogey at 17 and set the clubhouse target at even-par 144 with a final round 73. Dylan Mostert reeled in successive birdies at 16 and 17 to close with a 70 and the State Mines junior joined Cole in pole position.
