Cullinan Golf Club crowned Inter-Club Champs 2016

This year’s edition was hosted at Cullinan Golf Club. The locals took full advantage and racked up 88 points to win by two from Akasia CC who also came second last year.

Conradie brothers do it again

Estiaan and Ruan Conradie (Wingate Park CC) have won the LIBERTY GNGU Closed Foursomes tournament. This comes on the back of a stellar win of the Central Gauteng Foursomes tournament. The event was held at an immaculate Woodhill Country Club on an absolutely brilliant day for golf. The brothers were paired with Dylan Kok and Phillip Kruse, who ended tied second with Jansen Harper and Louis Jonck, winning the tournament by eight strokes on 5 under par. Estiaan and Ruan Conradie (Wingate Park CC) have won the Randpark Open Foursomes trophy (the larger one) and the Central Gauteng Golf Union Open Foursomes trophy. The two events have been jointly presented for the past two years. The brothers shot rounds of 73 and 71 to win by one from the team of Donovan Pearse and Waylon Kukard from Ekurhuleni Golf Union.

Ruan and Estiaan were both named in the Inter-Provincial team to represent the GNGU at Fishriver Sun from 19 to 23 September. The two other GNGU pairs that were in the field of 32 were Andrew van der Knaap / Continue reading

Champion of Champions – Ladies A Division was postponed due to a diary conflict with another tournament. The ladies decided to re-schedule the tournament and after all were said and done Lenanda van der Watt was crowned champion. The Akasia CC junior shot rounds of 77 and 76 in testing conditions at Centurion CC to beat her closest rival in the form of Lindi Coetzee (Services GC) by three strokes.

Previous champions include: Nicole Hannah, Gina Switala, Crystal Cooper, Marinda Pretorius, Kim Williams, Henriette Frylinck and Connie Chen.

Dream win for Du Preez at Gauteng Champs

LarissaJOHANNESBURG, 19 August 2016 – Gauteng North’s Larissa du Preez was absolutely delighted when she celebrated her first provincial success with an impressive four stroke victory in the ProShop Ladies Golf Gauteng 36-hole Stroke Play Championship this week.

The 20-year-old Gauteng North amateur was the only player to finish the first round in red numbers and a two-under-par 70 in the blustery weather at Parkview Golf Club saw her sleep on a three shot lead over Caitlyn Macnab from Ekurhuleni.

The conditions intensified in the final round, but once Du Preez overcame a nervy start, she showed some exceptional skills in the robust wind that bullied the field and battled to a hard-fought for 77 to triumph on three-over-par 147. Continue reading

GNGU_IPT2016collageCongratulations to the eight players that will represent the Gauteng North Golf Union at the Premier South African Inter-Provincial Championship from 19-23 September at the Fish River Sun Hotel and Country Club.
GNGU president Johan Struwig will be the manager for the team.
