Last chance saloon for SA team in Argentina

TIGRE, Argentina (29 March 2015) – The South African team will give today’s final round one last push, while France, Ireland and Australia will go head-to-head for victory in the Southern Cross Invitational at the Nordelta Golf Club in Tigre.

Romain Lagasque (67), Jeremy Gandon (72) and Edgar Catherine (75) combined for a total of 214 to lift France into pole position for the first time in the prestigious team competition.

The side leads on 640, but will take a more one stroke lead into the last round over Ireland, who led through the first two rounds.

SA team under pressure at Southern Cross

2015 Leopard TrophyTIGRE, Argentina (28 March 2015) – Ireland retained their overnight lead in the prestigious Southern Cross Invitational on Friday, but South Africa failed to advance despite an improved effort in the second round at the Nordelta Golf Club in Tigre.

Ireland’s Jack Hume, Gary Hurley and Gavin Moynihan combined for a total of 212 to keep the team ahead on nine under par for a second successive day.

France remained in second on six under after back-to-back rounds of 213, while Australia hung on for third place on five over with a second round 219. Continue reading

SA team on back foot in Tigre

JasonGNGUTIGRE; Argentina (27 March 2015) – Ireland edged ahead of France in the first round of the prestigious Southern Cross Invitational, while South Africa and host nation Argentina battled in the opening round at the Nordelta Golf Club in Tigre.

Jack Hume, Gary Hurley and Gavin Moynihan put Ireland in pole position on five-under-par 211 with respective rounds of 69, 70 and 72.

Reigning SA Stroke Play champion Ugo Coussaud led the way for the French with a three under 69 and the team lag just two strokes behind the Irish.

Australia took third on 219, followed by Canada on 222. Chile placed fifth on 224, while Portugal finished in sixth on 225. Continue reading

Gauteng pair ready for action at Southern Cross

2015 Leopard TrophyBUENOS AIRES; Argentina (24 March 2015) – Jason Smit and Hendrikus Stoop are gunning for solid performances at par-72 Jack Nicklaus-designed course at the Nordelta Golf Club when they line up in the Southern Cross Invitational in Tigre on Thursday.

The Gauteng pair will contest the prestigious 54-hole international teams event alongside Ekurhuleni’s Tristen Strydom and Gerlou Roux from the Western Province.

South Africa will face off against teams from Argentina, Australia, Canada, Chile, France, Ireland and Portugal at the par-72 Jack Nicklaus-designed course at the Nordelta Golf Club. Continue reading

De Lange named to All-Africa Junior Golf Champs team

SANLAM AMATURE GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPSGauteng North’s Keegan de Lange will lead the four-man team in South Africa’s title defence at the prestigious All-Africa Junior Golf Championships in Zambia this May.

The South African Golf Association (SAGA) selected De Lange, Boland’s Herman Loubser and Central Gauteng pair Marco Steyn and Dylan Naidoo to represent the country in Africa’s most prestigious junior team championship.

De Lange is currently ranked third in the SAGA Junior Rankings, while Loubser, Steyn and Naidoo are respectively ranked fourth to sixth.

SAGA Golf Integration Manager, Eden Thompson, believes the team is definitely up for the challenge at Lusaka Golf Club from 4-8 May. Continue reading

SA primed for Argentinean challenge

2015 Leopard TrophyTristen Strydom, Jason Smith, Gerlou Roux and Hendrikus Stoop are primed to fly the flag for South Africa in the Southern Cross Invitational in Argentina next week.

The country’s leading amateurs will line up against top international teams from the host nation, Australia, Canada, Chile, France, Ireland and Portugal at the Nordelta Golf Club in Tigre from 26-29 March.

South African Golf Association (SAGA) president Gerhard Conradie and national coach Llewellyn van Leeuwen accompanied the team to South America. Continue reading
