GN players gun for Western Province Amateur glory

SANLAM AMATURE GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPSCAPE TOWN, 23 April 2015 – Wingate Park’s Teaghan Gauche will lead a trio of Gauteng North golfers into battle in the first round of the Western Province Amateur Championship at Rondebosch Golf Club on Thursday.

The country’s number two ranked amateur fired rounds of 75-72-67 and 73 to take sole second behind Stroke Play champion Tristen Strydom, while Philip Kruse from Woodhill and Centurion duo  Nicholas Frade and Divan Marais also made the 32-man field for the Match Play Division.

Gauteng North is guaranteed at least one Gauteng North golfer in the second round draw as Gauche and Marais will face off in round one after the Centurion golfer survived the play-off on 13-over-par 301.

Frade carded rounds of 71-76-74 and 77 to tie for 20th on 10 over 298 and Kruse finished a further stroke adrift after reeling in three successive rounds of 74 and a final round 77.

While Frade faces off with Louis Taylor from Central Gauteng, Kruse will have his job cut out when he goes head-to-head with defending champion Gerlou Roux from Western Province.

Double Delight for Province at Indwe Senior IPT

2015ISASIPT_A-SectionSeniors_SS_GNGUBENONI, 17 April 2015 – The Western Province Seniors and Super Seniors celebrated a superb double victory as both teams successfully defended their A-Section titles for a second successive year in the INDWE SA Senior Amateur Inter-Provincial in Benoni.

Peter van Coller, Japie Koopman, Andrew Cleophas, Tony Bailey, Brian Mampies, Francois le Roux, Dirk van der Merwe and Craig Poulton combined for a superb final round at Ebotse Links Golf Club on Friday to seal the Senior team’s fourth victory in five years.

Super Senior stalwarts Ivan Palframan and Herman September partnered Mark Hair and rookie Tim Hewan to claim an unprecedented fifth consecutive victory in the 27th edition of the country’s largest senior team championship. Continue reading

SA off to solid start at Africa Zone VI

SATeamGNGUKAMPALA, Uganda (17 April 2015) – South Africa’s eight man team enjoyed a solid start to their title defence in the Africa Zone VI Golf Championship in Kampala, Uganda on Thursday.

Following a delayed start due to heavy rain, Tristen Strydom, Teaghan Gauche, Jade Buitendag, Jason Smith, Hendrikus Stoop and Jovan Rebula stormed out of the blocks at Kampala Golf Club to reel in six victories for South Africa.

Rookie Aubrey Beckley lost to Zimbabwe number one Stuart Krog, who came into the event on the back of a 67th place finish in the Sunshine Tour’s Golden Pilsener Zimbabwe Open, but Matthew Spacey halved against Uganda’s captain Adolf Muhumuza. Continue reading

SA U-23 IPT battle in home straight

IPT GOLF CHALLENGEJOHANNESBURG, 16 April 2014 – Ekurhuleni and Central Gauteng will take centre stage in today’s final round as the two teams pursue glory in the South African U-23 Inter-Provincial at Country Club Johannesburg.

Central Gauteng beat Western Province 7 – 5 to protect their lead in the standings, but the side came under huge pressure from Ekurhuleni, who beat Gauteng North 6.5 – 5.5 to match their score.

Both teams head into their final matches with seven points, with Central Gauteng marginally ahead with 32 games points against Ekurhuleni’s 31. Continue reading

Final round showdowns looming at Indwe Senior IPT

SA Amateur Stroke Play ChampionshipsBENONI, 16 April 2015 – Gauteng North and North West enjoyed outstanding success in the third round of the 27th INDWE SA Senior Amateur Inter-Provincial, but Western Province need just one more solid delivery to complete a successful A-Section title defence in Benoni.

The defending champions took control of the country’s largest senior team championship with two comprehensive second round victories, and drove their advantage home by beating Ekurhuleni at Ebotse Links Golf Club on Thursday. Continue reading

Gauteng North in pursuit at SA U-23 IPT

Adriel Poonan GNGUJOHANNESBURG, 15 April 2015 – A change of fortune will see Gauteng North launch a forceful attack in round four of the South African U-23 Inter-Provincial after catching up to Central Gauteng and Ekurhuleni at Country Club Johannesburg on Wednesday.

The defending champions thumped North West 9 – 3 to draw level with Central Gauteng and Ekurhuleni on five points.

The Daisies will need to pull off another solid performance, though, to make up their deficit in games points.

Central Gauteng and Ekurhuleni drew 6-all, but Central retained their lead in the standings with 25 games points. Continue reading
