Du Preez within striking distance at KZN Amateur

1SA Amateur Golf Championships - Day 19 August 2015 – Mpumalanga golfer Andre van Heerden fired a nearly flawless 66 in blustery afternoon conditions at Selborne Country Club, but Gauteng North’s James du Preez is just one behind in the first round of the 36-hole Stroke Play Qualifier of the KwaZulu-Natal Amateur Championship on Wednesday.

Van Heerden from Walker Park eagled the par five third and reeled in five birdies against a lone bogey, while Du Preez from Pretoria Country Club was equally impressive with five birdies and an eagle against bogeys at 13 and 17.

Mohit Mediratta from Central Gauteng and Gauteng North par Reinhardt Blaauw and Teaghan Gauche finished four shots off the pace.

McLachlan triumphs at Ebotse

SANLAM AMATURE GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPSSilver Lakes golfer Keegan McLachlan held off a charging Dylan Naidoo and Brandon Gildenhuys at Ebotse Links on 17 Sunday to qualify for the Glacier Junior Series National Final in October.

The 16-year-old McLachlan, who won the Larry Nestadt Tournament on the Glacier Junior Series with a solid 70, lost in playoff two weeks ago against another great contender on the Series, Marco Steyn, but made this most of this Sunday’s opportunity to book his spot for the Final. Continue reading

Svensson denies De Lange at Boys Amateur

KeeganDeLange_GNGUSOUTHPORT, England (16 August 2015) – Sweden’s Marcus Svensson defeated South Africa’s Keegan De Lange 4&3 in the 36-hole final at Royal Birkdale to win the 89th Boys Amateur Championship on Sunday.

The 17-year-old from Halmstad Golf Club became the second Swedish player in succession to win the title, following on from Oskar Bergqvist’s victory at Prestwick in 2014. Continue reading

Historic final awaits De Lange at Royal Birkdale

SA U19 Boys Golf ChampionshipSOUTHPORT, England (15 August 2015) – Gauteng North’s Keegan de Lange made South African golfing history as the first South African junior to contest the Boys Amateur Championship final in North West England.

The 18-year-old Pretoria golfer will face Sweden’s Marcus Svenssonn in the 36-hole final for the title at Royal Birkdale on Sunday.

“I’m was absolutely shocked to learn this news,” said De Lange, who was the lone South African starter in the international field of 252 players from 19 countries in the 89th edition of this prestigious international junior championship. Continue reading

De Lange makes semi-final at Boys Amateur

SA U19 Boys Golf Championship15 August 2015 – South Africa’s Keegan de Lange defeated Billy Spooner from England at the 19th hole to reach the semi-final of the 89th Boys Amateur Championship at Royal Birkdale.
The 18-year-old Pretoria Country Club junior will face Martin Torre Borja from Spain and Marcus Svensson from Sweden will go up against Marco Penge from England in the semi-finals.

De Lange delights at Boys Amateur

SANLAM AMATURE GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS14 August 2015 – South Africa’s Keegan de Lange won four straight holes on the back nine at Royal Birkdale to defeat Zacharias Agerbak from Denmark and reach the quarter-finals of Boys Amateur Championship in North West England on Friday.

The Gauteng North junior was the lone South African to the 252-strong international field that started the 89th staging of the prestigious junior event at two of England’s finest Links Courses on Tuesday.

De Lange opened with a two-under-par 69 at Royal Birkdale and added a one over 72 at Southport and Ainsdale to finish fifth overall in the 36-hole Stroke Play Qualifier.

He finished just four strokes behind Englishman Bradley Moore, who claimed the medallist honours on six under 137. Continue reading

Waterkloof waltzes to SA High School Champs victory

GNGUTSHWANE, 7 August 2015 – Eric Nel, Estiaan Conradie, Dylan Kok and JP Cooper combined to score Waterkloof High School’s biggest coup of the season when they marched to victory in the South African High School Championship at Irene Country Club on Friday.

Four for four in victories this season, the quartet defeated defending champions TuksSport High School by seven strokes in a tightly-contested final to keep their winning record pristine.

The leaders slept on a three stroke lead over TuksSport after opening with an even-par 216.

Nel anchored the side with a 68, Conradie added a 70 and Kok contributed a 72 for a tally of 210 and victory on six-under-par 426. Continue reading
