Gauche graduates to Sunshine Tour

SALT_TeaghanGauche_GNGUGauteng North Golf Union salutes Teaghan Gauche from Wingate Park Country Club, who secured his playing privileges for the 2016 Sunshine Tour at the Qualifying School in Bloemfontein.

The TuksSport Golf Academy player fired rounds of 69, 72, 73, 72 and 68 for a total score of 354 to finish among the top 30 players who earned cards to the paid ranks. Well done Teaghan!

SA duo’s run ends in Argentina

Tristen_Teaghan_GNGUBuenos Aires, Argentina (15 November 2015) – Top ranked South African pair Teaghan Gauche and Tristen Strydom were both eliminated in the 120th Argentine Amateur Championship in Argentina on Thursday.

Torrential rain in Buenos Aires rendered the Tortugas Golf Club unplayable on Wednesday and forced the organisers to not only shorten the first round to nine holes, but reduce the 36-hole stroke play qualifier to just 27 holes. Continue reading

Kruse claims Harry Oppenheimer Trophy

Philip Kruse and George Schwartzel_GNGUVEREENIGING, 19 November 2015 – Woodhill amateur Philip Kruse boxed an eagle putt at the final hole at Maccauvlei Country Club to celebrate a long-awaited return to the winner’s circle in the Harry Oppenheimer Trophy on Thursday.

The 19-year-old Pretoria golfer collected the Vaal Amateur Trophy as the leading amateur through 36-holes with rounds of 67 and 68 and fired a flawless seven under 65 in the third round to maintain his hold on the championship.

Eighteen holes and an even-par 72 later, Kruse joined a prestigious list of past winners with a five stroke victory on 16-under-par 272. Continue reading

SAGDB growth in Gauteng North

2014SAU19_OfensteNukeri1_GNGUThe SAGDB’s programme in Gauteng North has enjoyed a year of great improvements. With the support of the Gauteng North Golf Union and clubs such as Hillside and Akasia, development initiatives are going from strength to strength.

At the end of 2014, the SAGDB was coaching 117 children in Gauteng North at just one club – Hillside. That number has since grown to over 200 children at six different clubs in the region.

At the same time, the number of SAGDB players with club memberships in the province has also more than doubled. From just 8 club members in 2014 there are now 20 youngsters with club memberships that allow them to compete at official junior tournaments. Continue reading

Kruse keeps grip on Oppenheimer Trophy

SANLAM AMATURE GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPSVEREENIGING, 19 November 2015 – James du Preez fired a terrific six-under-par 66 in the third round of the Harry Oppenheimer Trophy, but fellow Gauteng North amateur Philip Kruse maintained an iron-clad grip on the prestigious championship with a flawless 65 at Maccauvlei Country Club.

Kruse carded rounds of 67 and 68 to sleep on a two shot lead.

The Woodhill golfer stretched his advantage to three shots with five birdies before he eagled the par-five closing hole to finish five strokes clear of Du Preez. Continue reading
