Deyzel in pursuit of Le Roux at Leopard Trophy

MALELANE, 11 January 2016 – While Cameron Moralee basked in the glory of winning the Freddie Tait Cup as the leading amateur in the BMW SA Open proudly hosted by Ekurhuleni on Sunday, Werner Deyzel was chasing down victory on the South African Golf Association​ (SAGA) national junior circuit at Leopard Creek Country Club near Malelane.
The Gauteng North junior lined up alongside 22 of the country’s leading juniors in the inaugural Leopard Trophy, but Deyzel will have his job cut out to catch first round pacesetter Steven Le Roux​.

Juniors impress at BMW SA Open Qualifier

Albert Venter 05_GNGUEKURHULENI, 6 January 2016 – Four of South Africa’s leading junior golfers upstaged a bevy of professional players to join a world-class field in the 2016 BMW SA Open Championship, proudly hosted by Ekurhuleni, at Glendower Golf Club.

David Meyers, Albert Venter, Herman Loubser and Cameron Moralee boosted the number of amateur starters to nine, which is the biggest amateur contingent to line up in the SA Open in the last 30 years.

The junior quartet were among 268 hopefuls that vied for 13 precious spots at three pre-qualifying venues on Tuesday.

Meyers from Central Gauteng returned a 68 to join Jaco Prinsloo and Daniel Hammond in a tie for second at Benoni Country Club. The trio finished four shots behind winner Jason Froneman, while Venter from Gauteng North sewed up the final spot with a three under 69. Continue reading

Golf RSA breaks ground with first National Squad

SANLAM AMATURE GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPSCAPE TOWN, 22 December 2015 – Golf RSA, the governing body for amateur golf in South Africa, has announced a National Squad of 34 players for 2016.

The squad will be made up of some of the country’s most talented young amateurs and will feature players from the top of the open amateur and junior amateur rankings, plus a good mix of promising youngsters who have the potential to become great players.

South Africa’s top ranked amateur Tristen Strydom spearheads the group of Open Amateurs, while the country’s number one ranked junior Ross Sinclair leads the way in the U-19 section. Continue reading

GNGUWORCESTER, 18 December 2015 – Gauteng North edged out KwaZulu-Natal for a fourth place finish n the log, Southern Cape’s youthful exuberance, grit and determination was unparalleled as they marched to victory in the A-Section and Free State put the seal on a magnificent performance in the B-Section battle for promotion with an unbeaten record in the South African U-19 Inter-Provincial at Worcester Golf Club.

WP, Gauteng North bounce back at SA U-19 IPT

2015SAu19IPT_GautengNorthRnd2_GNGUWORCESTER, 15 December 2015 – Western Province forced their title defence back on track in round two of the South African U-19 Inter-Provincial and Gauteng North bounced back with a fine showing on a day when a strong easterly wind severely tested the field at Worcester Golf Club.
Having won the Foursomes 2.5 – 1.5, Estiaan Conradie handed Burt Gildenhuys a 7 & 6 hiding to give Gauteng North a solid start the Singles, but Brandon Gildenhuys, Jason Thalrose and Tristen Strydom mounted a strong assault to put Ekurhuleni ahead.
However, Keegan de Lange, Cliffie Thompson, Keegan McLachlan and Ross Sinclair delivered the winning blows for Gauteng North.
