SA teams primed for new-look Zone VI

GNGU_teamMBABANE, Swaziland, 12 April 2016 – Four of the country’s top ranked amateurs and four of its most promising rising stars will represent South Africa in the Africa Zone VI Golf Tournament in Swaziland, which tees off at Royal Swazi Spa Country Club from 13-15 April 2016.

Teams of eight players have traditionally contested the Africa Zone VI Golf Tournament since its inception in 1993, but changes to the format were voted in last year. Continue reading

Province, Gauteng off to great start at SA Senior IPT

2016_1_Central_GautengNorth_GNGUJOHANNESBURG, 13 April 2016 – Western Province and Central Gauteng enjoyed a productive start in Tuesday’s opening round of the 2016 INDWE SA Senior Amateur Inter-Provincial at the Wanderers Golf Club.

Central Gauteng beat both their first round opponents, while the defending champions defeated North West by four points and held off a spirited challenge from Gauteng North for a one point victory.

Central Gauteng laid a solid foundation in the foursomes with a 3 – 1 lead against Ekurhuleni and a 2.5 – 1.5 advantage over Eastern Province. Continue reading

Sinclair sweeps to SA Boys U-19 double

2016NSABU19_RossSinclair_GNGUBLOEMFONTEIN, 2 April 2016 – Gauteng North junior Ross Sinclair staved off a brave challenge by 16-year-old Garrick Higgo from Boland to defend his Nomads SA Boys U-19 Championship title at Bloemfontein Golf Club on Saturday.

Sinclair said his success was largely down to a trio of birdies around the turn during the second trip around the championship layout that helped him regain the momentum in the 36-hole final.

The 18-year-old from Centurion Golf Club was 4-up through 13 holes, but his lead was down to just one after he dropped shots at 15 and 16 and double bogeyed 17.

Further bogeys at the 20th and 22nd holes opened the door for Higgo, who hit a solid drive down the par five fifth (23rdhole) and a six-iron to five feet for a great  a great birdie from four feet surged to a 2-up lead with a superb eagle three at the 23rd hole.

“After I birdied 13, I suddenly felt like I didn’t have the energy to swing the club,” Sinclair explained. Continue reading

The hunt is on at SA Boys U-19 Championship

SABoysU-19QF_collage_GNGUBLOEMFONTEIN, 31 March 2016 – Boland junior Garrick Higgo made a strong case for a third victory this season, Ross Sinclair kept his title defence on track and Aneurin Gounden rose to ascendancy again at the Nomads SA Boys U-19 Match Play Championship at Bloemfontein Golf Club on Thursday.

Sinclair kept his title defence on track after losing the Stroke Play Championship by a lone shot to Germishuys.

The Gauteng North junior eliminated Wilco Nienaber from Free State 3 & 1 in the first round and thumped Slade Pickering from North West 3 & 2 in round two. Continue reading

Sinclair hot on Manchest’s heels at SA Boys U-19

2015SAU19_RossSinclair_GNGUBLOEMFONTEIN, 29 March 2016 – Southern Cape’s Franklin Manchest fired three birdies around the turn Bloemfontein Golf Club to surge into the second round lead at the Nomads SA Boys U-19 Stroke Play Championship on Tuesday.
The George golfer fired a five under 67 to move to seven-under-par 137 and leads by one from Ross Sinclair from Gauteng North.

Du Toit and Mclachlan victorious in Reunion

GNGUSAINT GILLES LES HAUTS, Reunion (29 March 2016) – Tshwane juniors Danielle du Toit and Keegan Mclachlan celebrated a double South African victory in the 2016 World Amateur Golf Audi Reunion on Reunion Island on Monday.

Du Toit claimed a runaway victory in the Ladies Championship in a wire-to-wire performance at the magnificent Golf Du Bassin Blue, while Mclachlan edged out fellow Gauteng North amateurs Albert Venter and Albert van der Knaap to lift the Mens Championship title.

Mclachlan fired a two-under-par 70 in round two to wipe out a five stroke deficit. The 17-year-old Silver Lakes golfer birdied the final round for a 75 to stave off Venter and Van der Knaap for a two stroke victory on two over 218. Continue reading
