Venter keeps command at Clovelly

AlbertVenter1_GNGUCAPE TOWN, 20 April 2016 – Centurion amateur Albert Venter kept pedal to the metal and extended his overnight lead in the Western Province Stroke Play Championship at Clovelly Country Club on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old made the most of the wind-still conditions on Monday to open with a nine-under-par 63, but had a tougher time of it as a 35 km per hour South-Westerly wind showed up in the second round.

He offset two bogeys with five birdies for a three under 69 to keep control at 12-under-par 132 and move another step closer to a second victory this season. Continue reading

Venter on fire at WP Stroke Play

2016AASP_AlbertVenter_GNGUCAPE TOWN, 19 April 2016 – Gauteng North’s Albert Venter took advantage of tranquil conditions in the first round of the Western Province Stroke Play to race to a two shot lead at Clovelly Country Club in the Silvermine Valley close to Fish Hoek on Monday.

The 20-year-old from Centurion Country Club was in imperious form as he reeled in 10 birdies on his way to a nine-under-par 63. Continue reading

Central Gauteng and WP triumph at SA Senior IPT

2016ISASIPT_A_CentralGauteng_GNGUJOHANNESBURG, 15 April 2016 – After close calls in the last two editions of the INDWE SA Senior Amateur Inter-Provincial, Central Gauteng produced a champions’ innings on the final day to end Western Province’s reign in the prestigious national senior team championship.

However, Ivan Palframan, Tim Hewan, Anton Bezuidenhout and Mark Hair from Western Province will return home as heroes after securing their sixth consecutive title in the Super Seniors division with a commanding performance at the Wanderers Golf Club. Continue reading

SA teams dominate Zone VI qualifier

SA Amateur Golf Championships - Day 1MBABANE, Swaziland, 14 April 2016 – South Africa’s National Team won the A-Division seeding in the stroke play qualifier at the 22nd Africa Zone VI Golf Tournament, while the Presidents Team took honours in the B-Division at Royal Swazi Spa Country Club on Wednesday.

Top ranked Marco Steyn fired a three-under-par 69 to set the pace for the National Team.

Fellow Central Gauteng player Dylan Naidoo contributed a 70 and Tristen Strydom from Ekurhuleni added a 71 to take the team’s total to six-under-par 210. James du Preez from Gauteng North posted a non-counting one over 73. Continue reading
