Gauteng North A in pursuit in Middelburg

GautengNorthA_GNGUGauteng North A is in pursuit of Gauteng B, who made a fast start to their title defence in the 72-Hole Teams Championship at Middelburg Country Club on Monday.

Surprisingly it was the B-team who pushed the 2015 champions in early pole position in the Swiss Team Trophy division. Randpark’s Kajal Mistry offset a lone bogey at the par three sixth with birdies at three, 15 and 16 to open with a two under 70. Chiara Contomathios from Wanderers mixed three bogeys with a pair of birdies for a 73 that handed Gauteng B pole position at one-under-par 143.

Gauteng North A finished three off the pace , while Boland leapfrogged Gauteng A to join the chase in third spot. Continue reading

Daisies edge Gauteng for Challenge Cup victory

GautengNorth1_GNGUJOHANNESBURG (20 May 2016) – In 2014, the difference come down to one point and the Challenge Cup went the way of Central Gauteng. Last year, the SAGA Juniors did it with a single games point. Not surprisingly then, the 2016 edition produced another final round of high drama.

But no-one imagined that Gauteng North would celebrate their first victory in five years with the smallest margin ever.

The Daisies fought like Trojans until the last putt dropped to defeat the President’s Team 6.5 – 5.5 and that narrow triumph secured the half a games point Gauteng North needed to edge out Central Gauteng for victory at Parkview Golf Club on Friday. Continue reading

Challenge Cup going down to the wire

Gauteng North_GNGUJOHANNESBURG, 19 May 2016 – Gauteng North and Central Gauteng are deadlocked heading into the final round of the 2016 Challenge Cup, but the SAGA Juniors are still in the mix after fourth round action wrapped up at Parkview Golf Club on Thursday.

Gauteng North led the standings after three rounds, but the SAGA Juniors held the Daisies to a 6-all draw and that opened the door for Central Gauteng to take aim at a third victory in five years. Continue reading

It’s still up in the air at the Challenge Cup

RuanConradie_GNGUJOHANNESBURG, 18 May 2016 – Midway through the 2016 Challenge Cup and it is still wide open after the SAGA Juniors flattened Western Province, USSA halted Gauteng North’s winning run and Central Gauteng eked out a second victory at Parkview Golf Club on Wednesday.

Gauteng North bagged victories against Central Gauteng and Western Province, but USSA put the brakes on their run and held the Daisies to a 6-all draw.

USSA trailed 3 – 1 after the Foursomes, but Andrew van der Knaap won 5 & 4 and Luke Jerling downed Albert Venter 4 & 2 to put the side back in the match. Continue reading

Gauteng North crosses first hurdle at Challenge Cup

2016SASP_DylanKok2_GNGUJOHANNESBURG, 16 May 2016 – Gauteng North and the South African Universities came up trumps while it took a feisty comeback in the Singles for the South African Golf Association (SAGA) Juniors to get their title defence in the Challenge Cup underway  at Parkview Golf Club on Monday.

Central Gauteng and Gauteng North drew 2-all in the Foursomes and the host union took a 4 – 2 lead after Cameron Moralee and Dylan Naidoo both won 6 & 5. Continue reading

The Els Club at Copperleaf snatch narrow victory from Pretoria CC

20160509_172701The Els Club development league side beat PCC during the final round by two points. The league was scheduled over 8 rounds at various clubs around Pretoria. Each participating team entered 8 players of which the 6 best scores count toward the team total. Truly remarkable that the two teams were separated by such a narrow margin. (PCC held a one point lead coming into the final round)

Roux rakes in SA Mid-Amateur Championship double

2016SAMAC_GerlouRoux2_GNGUTSHWANE, 9 May 2016 –Western Province’s Gerlou Roux staved off Shaun Stapleton from Central Gauteng to claim back back-to-back titles in the SA Mid-Amateur Stroke Play Championship last Friday.

“I guess I got a jump on that old adage that life begins at 40; if 39 is this good, I can’t wait to hit the forties,” jested the Bellville golfer after he sealed a two stroke victory on eight under 280 with rounds of 68, 73, 68 and 71 at Silver Lakes Country Club in Pretoria.

Roux swept to a four shot triumph last year, but this time around, the country’s number one ranked mid-amateur said victory tasted a whole lot sweeter. Continue reading
