SA trio still solid at Brabazon Trophy

2016AASP_AlbertVenter_GNGUKENT, United Kingdom (24 June 2016) – South Africa’s top ranked Jovan Rebula and reigning African Amateur Stroke Play champion Albert Venter will lead the local charge into the final round of the Brabazon Trophy at the London Golf Club today.

Rebula and Venter navigated the Heritage Course with a pair of even-par 72s to grab to join reigning Sanlam SA Amateur champion Craig Ross from Scotland, among others, at one-over-par 217. Continue reading

Samu under pressure at Nomads SA Girls defence

Danielle_GNGUORKNEY, 25 June 2016 – Gauteng junior Ivanna Samu claimed a magnificent play-off at Orkney Golf Club last year, but the defending champion will have her work cut out when she kicks off her title defence in the prestigious Nomads SA Girls Championship on Sunday.

After coming up short in a three-way play-off against eventual champion Cara Gorlei and defending champion Ji Sun Kang in 2014, the 17-year-old Ruimsig golfer was pushed to the limit by promising Gauteng North golfer Danielle du Toit in last year’s edition. Continue reading

Solid start for SA Universities in France

2016TeamRSABRIVE-LA-GAILLARDE, France (25 June 2016) – The South African Universities Team are in a strong position heading into the weekend at the 16th World University Golf Championships at Golf de Planchetorte in Brive-la-Gaillarde in France.

The South African trio lag just seven shots off the pace from joint leaders Ireland and France.

Luke Jerling and Rupert Kaminski combined for an opening seven over 151 to secure overall fifth in the Mens Team standings in round one and the team moved to fourth in the standings after posting 152 in round two. Continue reading

SA trio march on at Brabazon Trophy

Brabazon CollageKENT, United Kingdom (24 June 2016) – South African trio Albert Venter, Jovan Rebula and Tristen Strydom survived the cut after the weather-hit second round of the Brabazon Trophy was completed on Friday at the London Golf Club in Kent, England.

Rebula and Venter tied at one-over-par 145 and Strydom made it three South Africans in joint 33rd after completing the second round this morning. The local trio finished 11 shots behind the 36-hole leader, Cameron Davis from Australia.

SA team named for World Amateur in Mexico

WATCCollageCAPE TOWN, 24 June 2016 – The South African Golf Association (SAGA) have named Southern Cape’s Jovan Rebula and Central Gauteng pair Marco Steyn and Dylan Naidoo to represent South Africa at the biennial World Amateur Team Championships in September.

“The International Golf Federation moved the date for team selection forward to 1 July this year and we considered a number of factors in deciding on the Eisenhower Trophy team, including the rankings and the players’ performances over the last 12 months,” said SAGA acting president, Geoff Taylor. SA Juniors wrap up at Junior World Cup

2016SATeam_GNGUAICHI-PREFECTURE, Japan (16 June 2016) – The United States celebrated a double victory, while the South African Boys team shared fourth and the SA Girls team tied for seventh after a final push in the 2016 TOYOTA Junior Golf World Cup, supported by JAL, in Toyota City, Aichi-Prefecture, Japan on Friday.

GIRLS DIVISION

Kirsten Gillman, Kaitlyn Papp and Alyaa Abdulghany made it two-for-two for the United States when they held off defending champions Japan for a five shot victory in the Girls Division. Continue reading

SA Girls slip, SA Boys on the rampage in Japan

13346636_911470642297706_7280189094088694576_nAICHI-PREFECTURE, Japan (16 June 2016) – The South African Boys team moved to third in the 2016 TOYOTA Junior Golf World Cup Supported by JAL, but the Girls Team lost a little footing on day three of the prestigious international teams event in Toyota City, Aichi-Prefecture, Japan.
GIRLS COMPETITION
The South African Girls team slipped to eighth in the Girls Competition as the United States leapfrogged Japan with the lead at 13 under 419. The USA team posted a third round total of 139 to open up a five stroke lead on the defending champions.
