A Club Champion – 50 consecutive years playing Club Champs
At age 78 and playing off a 12 handicap, Brian Sander from Cullinan Golf Club will be playing in his 50th consecutive Club Championships this year.
‘I have over the past 50 years had the best and most memorable games that one could have, I have now made my 50th consecutive club champs this year and would like to finish off my golfing experience with that’ says Mr. Sander.
He has played in the A Division for 44 years and won 6 times, with his best result of 143.
Having joined Cullinan in 1967, he still plays golf once a week and his best handicap has been a 2. He has also had an incredible 11 hole-in-one’s – 9 of which were on Cullinan’s hole number 8 – understandably his favourite hole. His best memory also came during a round when he was playing on a Saturday in a four ball with three youngsters. One of them asked if he had ever seen someone have a hole in one. He, showed them that day, hitting the perfect shot on the 8th hole at Cullinan to add to his tally of hole-in-one’s. He said the group were great fun, chanting and carrying him around the golf course – his best and nicest experience over the years.
Cullinan Golf Club wish him luck and thank him for all the hard work and effort that he has put into the Club. Gauteng North Golf Union wish him all the best for the upcoming Club Champs and congratulate him on his achievements. It is a privilege for any Club to have such a loyal, dedicated and passionate golf member.
To all members playing Club Champs this weekend, or whichever weekend your Club may be hosting their event, all the best!
